And RSPB Cymru is appealing for more sets of eyes than ever before, from all around Wales, to step up for nature and help form a complete picture of the fortunes of garden favourites in the recent topsy turvey weather.

Dana Thomas from RSPB Cymru, says: “Taking part in Big Garden Birdwatch not only helps the RSPB track the ups and down of garden birds, but it gives participants the perfect excuse to sit down with a cup of tea and enjoy the wildlife that they share their outside space with.

“You’ll be a part of the biggest garden bird event in the world and you won’t even have to leave the warmth of your armchair!”

Recent harsh winters have seen some garden bird populations drop, only to make a comeback after a good breeding season the following year.

Last year, some of Wales’s smallest garden birds bounced back, and the wildlife charity wants to know whether they have managed to maintain their numbers.

 Big Garden Birdwatch is one of the first indicators to show how well Wales’s birds have fared during the previous breeding season and winter. With thousands of people taking part each year across Wales and over thirty years worth of data the results give an early indication of garden bird trends.

 But if even more people step up and take part, the scale of the ups and downs of our garden birds will become even clearer.

The full cost for the weekend is £65 for Girlguiding Cymru members and £75 for members from other Girlguiding UK Countries/Regions.

This cost includes food and accommodation but excludes personal travel to and from the venue.

o   APPROVED  LEVEL 2 TRAINING

A Level 2 training course aimed at adult members wishing to extend their existing skills, to learn how to lead groups safely in the open country, and work towards gaining a Girlguiding walking qualification. The course will include practical and theoretical sessions on:

• Route Planning

• Group Management

• Leadership Responsibilities

• Navigation (including night navigation)

• Equipment and food

• Emergency scenarios

• Hazards and Weather

• Access and Conservation

o   APPROVED  LEVEL 2 ASSESSMENT

The Level 2 assessment course is aimed at adults who have already attended an approved Level 2 training course.  Participants will be assessed on all aspects of  the Level 2 training. Experience of walking in open country is required.

o   WALKING WEEKEND

The walking weekend is an informal weekend run alongside the Level 2 weekend.  This is a perfect opportunity to gain further hill walking experience, log book days, or simply to explore a new area.

Saturday 7th April – Broneirion Easter food Fayre

A wide variety of local food and drink producers have been invited to exhibit and sell their produce from stands sited in the House and Grounds. Various cookery demonstrations and musical entertainment will be taking place throughout the day, as well as Children’s Easter themed activities including Easter Egg Hunt, Easter Bonnet Competition and egg decorating, making this an attractive event for the whole family. This is the ideal opportunity to sample and purchase locally produced high quality and gourmet treats.

Refreshments available, fully licensed bar and Broneirion shop.

£3.50 entrance per adult or £5.00 per couple. Children under 16 are free.

Saturday 19th May – “Lily May” Family Portraits

10.00am – 5.00pm.  Book an appointment with the excellent “Lily May Photography” to have your family portraits taken at Broneirion. “Lily May Photography” cover Events such as Proms, Charity Balls, Corporate, Weddings and Family Portraits throughout Mid Wales and The Borders.

Enjoy a Summer concert at Broneirion with music provided by Rhayader Male Voice Choir, soloists and special guests.  No need to worry about the weather as the concert is taking place in a marquee Fully  licensed bar and refreshments. Tickets £10.00.

Friday 13th July – 60′s & 70′s Disco & BBQ

Dance the night away at our themed disco in a marquee.  Come dressed appropriately, so dig out those flares. Tickets £5.00 excluding BBQ.

Broneirion is now fully licensed for weddings, and is the perfect venue to hold your reception. Visit our Wedding Fair to view the House and Grounds with your special day in mind, and whilst here choose your dress, flowers, invitations and other wedding services from local suppliers. Free entry.

Sunday 26th August – Broneirion Craft Fair

An opportunity to visit Broneirion to buy locally made gifts and products, admire and find out about unusual crafts and perhaps have a go,  or to treat yourself  to a special present. We guarantee that there will be something for everyone.

Friday 7th December – Community Carol Singing

Join us around the Christmas Tree to sing carols and see Broneirion festively decorated for Christmas.  Mince pies, refreshments and fully licensed bar. No charge.

Saturday 8th December – Santa’s Grotto

Once again Y Bwthyn will be magically transformed so Santa can stop here for a day. Boys and girls may visit him to tell him their Christmas wishes, and each  visitor will receive a special present.
