SPORTS DEVELOPMENT
SPORT THROUGH GUIDING
As part of our ‘Sport through Guiding’ Project, we are seeking to engage all our girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides  and Rangers throughout Wales to take part in a variety of sports and gain their ‘Give it a Go’ badge, which also introduces physical literacy.   (Click here do download the badge criteria),

Physical literacy development is about increasing physical skills and improving physical performance. These are fundamental skills that will educate our girls about the importance of keeping physically active.

Physical development is made up of two types of skill - gross motor skills and fine manipulative skills.

Gross motor skillsuse whole body movements for example, running, jumping, balancing, pushing, rolling, throwing, catching, kicking, etc.
Fine manipulative skills use small movements like hands and feet requiring accuracy and control.

Physical development is closely linked to all other learning particularly:
  • thinking,
  • understanding,
  • imagination,
  • creativity,
  • problem solving,
  • reasoning,
  • concentration and memory.
Physical Literacy
Physical Skill + Confidence + Motivation + Lots of Opportunities = PHYSICAL LITERACY
RUGBY LEADERS & NETBALL TOTS
We are delighted to be able to join with the WRU to deliver rugby leaders and tag courses to our members, giving everyone an opportunity to gain more knowledge in the sport rugby.

We are also excited to be working with Netball Wales to deliver Netball tots sessions to our Rainbows and Brownies, giving our girls the experiences and tools to be able to participate confidently in different sports.

Why don't you complete our "Give it a Go" Rugby and Netball badges with your unit? - Click here for further details.

In an effort to integrate physical literacy and sport across our 1000 units in Wales and reach a constant level of regular exercise and participation we have created ‘Give it a Go’ sport badges specifically for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers.
