Queen's Guide Award

The Queen’s Guide Award is the ultimate Award in Guiding and is available to all members of the Senior Section aged 16-25 years.

The Award presents participants with a series of challenges that allow individuals to give sustained service to Guiding and the Community. The Award is based on the concepts of personal challenge and participation, giving individuals the chance to develop skills through activities. These include:

  • Teamwork
  • Time management
  • Organisational skills
  • Planning and evaluation
  • Communication skills
The Award is flexible and can fit around your commitments and life, if you think you will need a break because you’ll be studying for exams, starting university, looking for a job you can build a planned break into your 3 year plan.

To become a Queen’s Guide, participants must complete all five sections of the Award within 3 years, unless a planned break has been agreed.

  • Service in Guiding
  • Outdoor challenge
  • Personal skill development
  • Community action
  • Residential experience

How to get started

To get started individuals should:

  • Complete their plan
  • Choose a personal mentor who will support participants through the Award
  • Contact their Queen’s Guide Adviser in the County
Activities undertaken for the Queen’s Guide Award may count towards Look Wider and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award; however it is recommended that participants check the relevant syllabus.

Doing the Queen's Guide Award gave me the opportunity to set myself challenges and then meet them.  It's great to look back and think "I did that!" If anyone is thinking 'Should I give it a go?' my answer would be a definite "Yes"! - Catherine
