centenaryGirlguiding Cymru –What’s on in Wales in 2010 ?

ALL WALES EVENTS

September 5th/6th and beyond- Launch Parties –
And Girlguiding Cymru certainly knows how to party. Pictures showing some of the celebrations can be seen on the Gallery page (link)

West Glamorgan held a party for 1300 girls and 200 adults at the LC where girls could take part in a multitude of activities, including cheerleading, street dance, a centenary trail, water activities, and even a fitness session with an Ospreys’ coach.

In Anglesey each DC met the County Commissioner in the centre of the Island, and took a light to light their own lanterns back to each party. They had beach parties, games, an exhibition, and at one party the lifeboat took the light out to sea.

Pembrokeshire held a large event at Haverfordwest where over 300 girls and adults heard new Girlguiding Vice-president, Doreen Hammersley and a young leader, read a diary of camp in their respective eras. Doreen had the whole party including the Chief Commissioner in fits of laughter with her tales of camping in a bell tent, catching nits from sleeping with heads near the pole!! Tori James, youngest woman to climb Everest, and an ex Guide and Ranger enthralled everyone with her video of reaching the summit, but put it all down to what she had learnt as a Guide. Districts and Units all over the County held noisy parties for the girls in the following few days.

Publicity has been great, on a UK, Wales, and County level. Various members have been interviewed, and West Glamorgan had an official CHQ photographer at their party, so keep a look out in Guiding.

A Story gathering Activate and poster have come out in September Guiding, and all DCs, Archivists and County Champions have received sets of excellent heritage posters.

The maze at Crystal Palace is open to visitors at no charge.
Can we all encourage girls to sign up for the Tall Ships Challenge –no previous sailing experience necessary.

Many Units will have started the Adventure 100 Challenge – this could be a good way of encouraging the girls to make their own decisions. We have been asked to push this. We won’t know what THEY want to do unless we listen to them.
